Welcome to the online home of
glass recycling in South Africa.

One easy way of reducing our carbon footprint is by recycling glass!
The Glass Recycling Company is committed to reducing our carbon footprint and therefore encourages all South Africans to actively get involved in glass recycling. Natural resources such as water, sand, coal, oil and oxygen are being depleted at an alarming rate because we’re using them up faster than they can replenish themselves.
Glass bottles and jars are produced and sold in vast quantities throughout South Africa. All of these bottles and jars are recyclable and can be recycled infinitely, as glass never loses any of its quality and purity. This means that the same high quality bottles and jars can be produced over and over again.
The recycling process uses less energy and produces less pollution than making new glass from raw materials. When it comes to making new glass containers from recycled glass, 315kg of CO2 is saved per ton of glass recycled after taking into account the transportation and processing.
Throwing recyclable glass items away is a total waste of the energy and resources it took to manufacture the products. By reducing the quantity of used glass that is thrown away, the amount of materials which have to be quarried and mined are reduced and in turn, our carbon footprint is lowered.
Every time you switch on a light, drive your car, run water or toss a glass bottle into the rubbish bin, you’re making a decision that affects the environment. The good news is that you can make a difference. Every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity you avoid using, saves over a kilogram of carbon dioxide that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the number one contributor to global warming.
Join us in our efforts to preserve our natural resources!
