Since the inception of The Glass Recycling Company in 2006, the organisation has successfully assisted in increasing the recovery of waste glass for recycling from 148,000 tons to 245,000. This represents a growth in recovery of 66% in three years.
Since 2006 the not-for-profit company has exceeded its initial targets and assisted more than 600 entrepreneurs around the country who purchase waste glass from collectors. More than 80% of these entrepreneurs are historically disadvantaged individuals (HDIs).
The Glass Recycling Company has been placing glass banks at strategic locations throughout the country to facilitate the recovery of waste glass from urban consumers and city dwellers. To date, 1 370 banks have been placed at different sites around the country. More banks will be placed shortly.
